ChristianaCare PGY2 Critical Care

ChristianaCare's PGY-2 pharmacy residency in Critical Care equips residents to care for critically ill patients in a variety of sub-specialties as well as shape the future of our profession by serving as mentors and preceptors.

Our program develops the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to pursue rational drug therapy. As a result, residents gain an advanced level of practical training and experience. Residents work alongside preceptors with advanced training in critical care. They experience working across a variety of practice areas, such as the Medical Intensive Care Unit, the Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit, the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, Neuro Intensive Care Unit, and the Emergency Department.

Through the use of evidence-based learning combined with hands-on application, the program fosters the development of the resident’s skills and builds confidence. They are well-trained to effectively participate in therapeutic decision-making and drug therapy monitoring aimed at improving patient care.

The PGY-2 Ambulatory Care program increases the resident’s depth of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities to raise the resident’s level of expertise in medication therapy management and clinical leadership in the ambulatory care setting. Residents completing this program will have knowledge, skills, and abilities that are highly marketable for positions in physician offices, pharmacist-run ambulatory care clinics, community pharmacies, population health departments, and Schools of Pharmacy. They will also be able to sit for board certification in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy. This is a 52- week, longitudinal residency in Morgantown, WV. Required patient case experiences include family medicine subspecialty clinics including weight management diabetes, geriatrics, home-based primary care, and respiratory care. Residents also have many options to complete their three elective patient care experiences including neurology, endocrinology, and outpatient psychiatry. The resident also has year long research and leadership experiences including a leadership selective where they can chose to focus on academia, medical homes, or community pharmacy leadership. This residency does not require any formal staffing, service is in the form of teaching at the School of Pharmacy via our robust academic experiences.
