Cencora (AmerisourceBergen) Combined PGY-1/PGY-2 CPAL with Masters
Thursday October 24, 2024 5:00pm - 7:00pm EDT
Programs:
  1. Combined PGY1/PGY2 CPAL with Masters @ Geisinger Wyoming Valley
  2. Combined PGY1/PGY2 CPAL with Masters @ Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
  3. Combined PGY1/PGY2 CPAL with Masters @ Henry Ford
  4. Combined PGY1/PGY2 CPAL with Masters @ UC Davis

Cencora is excited to offer these new Combined PGY1 Pharmacy & PGY2 Corporate Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (CPAL) with Masters residency programs. These innovative programs have been developed to prepare residents for success as a future pharmacy leader in corporate pharmacy, specializing in pharmacy supply chain management.

The resident will undergo comprehensive PGY1 health systems training, completing their PGY1 Pharmacy residency at one of our four health system partners, followed by a PGY2 in Corporate Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (CPAL) with Cencora (formerly AmerisourceBergen). The PGY2 year will be completed remotely while being physically located at the PGY1 health system.

During the PGY1 year, residents will engage in direct patient care activities, learning to assess medication therapy, manage drug interactions, and optimize pharmacotherapy for diverse patient populations. Additionally, residents will develop critical thinking and clinical decision-making abilities through interdisciplinary collaboration, case discussions, and hands-on experiences in acute and chronic care settings. The program also emphasizes the importance of communication, professionalism, and leadership, preparing residents to effectively educate patients and healthcare teams.

The PGY2 Corporate Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (CPAL) residency at Cencora is designed to build upon the resident’s patient-centered care and operational experiences. It prepares residents to assume high-level managerial, supervisory, and leadership roles in the corporate sector, with a specialized focus on supply chain management. During the PGY2-year, residents will acquire in-depth knowledge and engage in essential supply chain activities pivotal to pharmacy practice. These activities include pharmacy supply chain principles, understanding the stakeholder ecosystem, wholesaler distribution and economics, health system leadership, drug shortage strategies, inventory management, 340B contracting, and medication cost management strategies. Additionally, the resident will pursue a master’s degree as part of this innovative two-year program.

Residents will be employees of the PGY1 health system for the first year of the program and are subject to all resident requirements, policies and procedures, and benefits as outlined for PGY1 residents in that health system. Residents become Cencora employees for the PGY2 year, and are subject to all resident requirements, policies and procedures, and benefits as outlined for Cencora pharmacy residents.
